HubPages is an online writing platform and online community where people are given the freedom to produce content of their choosing—excluding offensive and adult content, of course. Each published article on HubPages was called a "hub" which is essentially a mini webpage. Hubs can be customized with links, text, images, videos, polls, and more.

Although I am still a member of HubPages, I only produced two articles with them since 2011. The content never saw much results. However, those who regularly produced content, commented on other Hubs, and stayed active within the community saw higher earnings. I didn't think the earning potential was worth the time, so I never became heavily involved with HubPages.

However, HubPages might be a fun place for aspiring creative writers or those who just enjoy writing about things that they enjoy, all while earning a buck or two.

Does HubPages pay you to write?

Not exactly...

HubPages itself doesn't pay writers. Instead, it allows you to sync accounts like Google Adsense and Amazon Associates to your hubs. When people click on these ads or purchase a product from your hub, you'll earn a little cash. For those who do not yet have an established following of their own, this is a great way to take advantage of HubPages traffic. However, it should be noted that HubPages doesn't get nearly as much traffic as it did before the major Google algorithm changes back in 2011.

Can you earn a steady income with HubPages?

From my experience and from what I've heard from others, it takes awhile to earn a steady income with HubPages. Earning a couple of dollars here and there is apparently easy.

In 2013, I came across a poll in which 10% of respondents claimed to earn $1,000 or more per month from their hubs. While this amount may not be typical, it could indicate high earning potential is possible—either that or the respondents were lying (which is also possible).

HubPages Tips

Based on what I've learned from browsing HubPages and visiting some of the most successful pages, it seems that the best way to earn income and maintain a following is by first choosing a niche. In fact, it's similar to starting a blog in that respect. Choose a niche that you love. Find out what's trending within that niche. Research your competition. Utilize SEO. Promote! Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Reddit, and Tumblr are excellent tools for promoting your hubs.
