Interior Design & Home Decor: Different Ways to Make Sage Work

Sage is a soothing, muted green hue that brings an elegant, sophisticated touch to any room. When implementing sage into your home decor, there are several different aspects that you need to consider.

To implement sage in a safe, foolproof way, opt for one or two accents among other neutral colors and dark woods. This creates an airy, elegant feel and works best using a minimalist approach. Adding natural elements, such as colorful botanicals and dark-hued trees brings the setting together.

Implementing sage is less conspicuous ways, such as on seat cushions, adds a crisp, modern feel to a dining room. The color, when combined with light woods, is easy on the eye.

Contrasting the sage green with light, bright colors, such as whites (to let in light and reduce the chances of a gloomy setting) and lots of natural light completes the look of sophistication.

When working with sage, you can also take it up a notch by using it as major focal points for accent walls in kitchens or living areas. Be sure that when you do this, that you're also implementing plenty of light colors, such as white, gold, or beige to bring light to the room. Billowing drapes dress up the room and patterned pillows also help to bring the sage together with all of the other elements.

Sage creates a relaxing atmosphere, and unless you're totally unfamiliar with color coordination, it's quite difficult to go wrong with this muted green hue.

Some have even found that the color pairs well with muted browns for curb appeal.

Remember that decorating with sage can go wrong if there is not enough natural light and color contrast, so be careful. On the other hand, neutrals and natural light breathe new life into this beautiful color.
