On a Sunday, my husband approached me and said, "Take the kids to Hocking Hills today." Just like that. At first, I was worried because it was such short notice and I had to gather up all of my things and leave within an hour so that I could get there before sunset and also enjoy the scenery. I rushed to get ready and we were on our way. I decided that we would visit Old Man's Cave.
From where we are, Old Man's Cave is about two hours away; just take 1-70 East, past Columbus, and then US 33 to OH 664 S. Once you hit OH 664 S, the roads wind and the hills are amazing. I had to do about 10 miles per hour under the speed limit because I wasn't familiar with the area and the twists and turns. Google Maps got us there safely. :)
If you're in the area and have never been to Old Man's Cave, I urge you to go. It is perhaps one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen in Ohio. It is chock-full of unique wildlife, plants, cliffs, and gorges. There are springs, waterfalls, and streams. It is truly one of the most gorgeous, natural beauties of Ohio.
You could spend several hours here and still not see the entire place. We spent about an hour here before the kids were tired of walking around. In some areas, the terrain is quite rough, whereas in others, it's easy to move around.
This area was a swirling stream under a stone bridge that made me feel like I was in Lord of The Rings. So captivating! The kids and I stopped here for awhile just to admire the beauty all around us.
We had a blast and I cannot wait to go back.
