Prep for Paleo: 6 Paleo Meal Recipe Ideas

Looking for ways to eat healthier? Then you've probably heard of the Paleo Diet. Developed by Loren Cordain, PhD, the Paleo Diet is considered to be "the way humans were genetically designed to eat." Characterized by it's selections of lean meats like lean beef and chicken, seafood like crab meat and salmon, fruit, non-starchy vegetables, nuts like walnuts and almonds (no peanuts), seeds, eggs, and plant based oils, the Paleo Diet is high in protein and low in carbs.

However, because the Paleo Diet is fairly restrictive in terms of what you can and cannot eat, it's important that people have several quick, easy Paleo recipes or ideas on hand. Below are 6 Paleo Meal ideas that you can cook and eat on the spot, or freeze for the week.

These are not full recipes, but each suggestion will give you an idea of the types of meals you can eat on the Paleo Diet.

Enjoy!

Paleo Beef Stew Atop a Bed of Fresh, Leafy Greens

Beef stew is an all-time favorite comfort food of mine. If I have extra steak on hand, I'll throw a few strip steaks in the crock pot with beef broth, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and carrots and let it cook. If the stew is too thin, a little Tapioca starch or lots of reducing should help thicken it up a bit. Once the stew is ready, serve it atop a batch of cooked spinach. It's filling, delicious, and it's a family-friendly Paleo meal.

Paleo Romaine Salad with Coconut Oil Fried Egg and Smoked Salmon

Smoked salmon, besides being absolutely delicious, can be turned into an entire meal by tossing it with romaine lettuce, sliced cherry tomatoes and then topping it with an egg fried in coconut oil. Season with a little pepper and you have yourself a quick and easy lunch.

Paleo-Approved Breaded Pork Chops, Served with Mashed Cauliflower Potatoes, Fruit, and Berries

If breaded pork chops are your thing, but your Paleo Diet prevents you from using your favorite breading, try this version instead! Create a Paleo-approved breading with almond flour and arrowhead starch. There are lots of recipes online for grain-free, Paleo-approved breading mixes.

Serve baked pork chops with a side salad, cauliflower "mashed potatoes," and some fruits and berries, if you'd like. Baked pork chops also pair very well with baked apples sprinkled with cinnamon.

Paleo Slow Cooker Chicken Soup Served with Spaghetti Squash

Another easy Crockpot meal is chicken soup. Throw a couple of chicken breasts into your slow cooker, add a couple cups of reduced sodium broth or stock, toss in carrots, onions, celery, and some herbs and spices and let 'er cook. This is a soul-warming dish, perfect for a cold night. If you're looking for something more filling, serve with spaghetti squash.

Succulent Paleo Shrimp Salad with Leafy Greens and Sesame Seeds

Shrimp is a great Paleo-food. Toss spinach with a leafy green salad, sesame seeds, and olive oil. It makes a protein-packed lunch that's also packed with fiber.

You can store the salad in a mason jar to eat for lunch over a two-day period.

Summer Salad - Paleo-Approved Pork, Chicken, and Watermelon Salad

A summer favorite, this Pork Summer Salad includes leftover pork chops, chicken, topped with sunflower kernels and drizzled with pineapple juice.

All of the colors in this dish are pleasing to the eye, and all of the ingredients create a party in your mouth. If you're feeling a bit more bold, toss with salsa instead and add a side salad for even more nutrients.

Paleo Shrimp and Broiled Bamboo with an Orange Sauce

Looking for an oriental Paleo recipe? Try broiled bamboo! It has a nut-like woodsy flavor and it pairs well with stir-fry dishes. Broiled bamboo and broiled shrimp pair well together when tossed with an orange sauce. It can be used as a delicious appetizer or as a light lunch.

Once you've gotten the hang of a Paleo Diet, you'll constantly amaze yourself with the new recipes that you come up with and the new takes on old, tried-and-true recipes.
