Whether you like simplicity at its fullest or the intricacy of the designs pattern of kalamkari sarees, one thing is for certain: dresses intrigue you and you love to see what people from all over the world are wearing. Here are some of the most popular dresses from around the world. We shall look at where they come from and what they represent.

Cheongsam

This is a popular outfit in China and it is also referred to as the Mandarin gown. It is a beautiful dress and it is long enough to cover one’s toes.  It has been around since the 1920’s when it first was created in Shanghai. It’s been quite a long time since then, but the gown is still a popular choice in China.  Since its inception it has become a popular choice not only among the high class of citizens but also the middle class.

Sari

This is probably one of the most popular costumes worldwide, as many people have heard of the sari. It is a traditional women’s wear from India, but not only India. The concept behind the sari is a simplistic as it is effective. It is basically a cloth wrapped around the body, but the different design patterns on it make it a splendor to behold. Aside from India, the Sari is custom in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Malaysia and Nepal. Of course, the Sari isn’t just wrapped around a naked body. Women usually wear a short sleeve blouse underneath it.

Kimono

The kimono belongs to Japan and is a traditional outfit worn by its people for many years. It has been traditionally worn during events such as weddings and other traditional gatherings. Some of the main characteristics of the kimono are its very large sleeves. While the women do most of the kimono wearing in Japan, it has also been a custom for men to wear it as well, during tea ceremonies and similar events. Even to this day, the kimono is an important element of Japanese tradition, especially during formal and traditional occasions and events.

Traje de Flamenca

Now we jump from Asia back into Europe with the Traje de Flamenca, an outfit traditionally worn by Flamenco dancers. The outfit comes from Spain and it is worn during the Flamenco dance.  Usually, you will see this type of outfit decorated with polka dots. Another striking characteristic of the Traje de Flamenca is the abundance of ruffles on both the skirt part of the dress as well as the sleeves.  This adds up to the theatrical natura of the flamenco dance and enhances the dancer’s performance.

Many countries have made their traditional garbs famous, and these are just a few of them. No matter where you come from, you can appreciate the beauty of these formal and ceremonial dresses which have stood the test of time and have made it through exciting and extended histories.
