The Ohio Renaissance Festival is one of my favorite festivals to attend in the fall. This year, we're attending during Pirate Week. We've attended the festival for the past four years straight and several times before then. There is something for everyone to enjoy, including over 100 daily shows on over 12 stages, over 150 unique arts and crafts shops, hearty food and drink, games of skill, and human powered rides for all ages.
I've written about the Ohio Renaissance Festival and our trips several times on Freelance Lady — in 2015 during Pirate Week, in 2016 during Time Traveler's Weekend, and in 2017 during Feast of Fools. This year, we'll be attending again during Pirate Week! And I'm thinking about dressing up my kids for the festivities!
When you attend the Ohio Renaissance Festival, you'll be greeted by hundreds of characters. You can rub elbows with royalty as you cheer your favorite knight to victory in the thrilling, full-armored tournament joust. You'll come across swordsmen, pirates, nobles, peasants, and jugglers.
The sprawling landscape is dotted with hundreds of unique shops in the Medieval Marketplace featuring many one-of-a-kind, hand crafted items. We've made several purchases throughout the year, including gorgeous headbands that double as tiaras, knight costumes, shields, padded swords, leather pocket bags, and hand-made clay mugs, among others.
As you walk along, you'll smell the savory scent of giant roasted turkey legs, fresh baked bread bowls overflowing with soups and stews, fish 'n' chips, steak-on-a-stake, corn on the cob, and of course, the finest ales and wines. There's something for everyone!
Visitors of all ages will be amused by the games of skill and human-powered rides. Try your hand at archery and see if you're a modern-day Robin Hood, or climb the castle tower and rescue the lovely damsel in distress.
You'll have a blast! Whenever September rolls around, we can't help but get excited about attending the Renaissance Festival.
