First: Change out those curtains

If you already have a set of curtains you wouldn't part with for anything in the world, it’s best to let them hang right where they are. Otherwise, you should definitely go out there and get a pair of lighter and brighter curtains to give your room a different feeling.

Install them slightly higher than your window, though, to give the illusion of having a bit more window space than you actually have. It’s a basic trick, for sure, but it really does make a difference.

Another excellent and rather budget-friendly tip is to either get rid of the carpet you have, install a brand new one, or change out the carpet you currently have. Either way, you’ll be left with an entirely different feeling in the room.
