Classy, Chic, Everyday Styles for Mom

I used to have immense amounts of trouble putting outfits together to suit my needs. And even though I'm a mom, I still want to appear chic and fashionable. I'm not much of a fashionista, so it wasn't easy to "evolve" as far as fashion goes.

For advice and inspiration, I began looking to websites such as Elle.com and Style.com. That, of course, was before I discovered Pinterest and Looklet. I still love Elle and Style, but Pinterest allowed me to keep track of the styles that I loved, and follow general trending fashions (and, of course, it allowed me to expand on my obsession with nail art), while Looklet allowed me to experiment with different styles with their virtual fashion tool (images below were created with Looklet).

Thanks to my new found inspiration, I've learned how to create basic ensembles that aren't too "young" but are still hip and chic. Perhaps you'll find some inspiration here as well?

Work, Professional Meetings, Job Interviews
Just because you're trying to make a good impression doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your fashion sense. Not all work gear has to be drab and boring, unless of course, you're issued uniforms (and in that case, you're on your own). Dressing up your dull professional apparel is all about color and accessorizing. Pairing a basic button-up blouse with a high-waist suit skirt is one way to create a dramatic professional appearance while simultaneously making a fashion statement. Finish the look off with nude heels, a contrasting waist belt, and a chic briefcase. Tights may or may not be necessary, depending on dress code.

Shopping, Extracurricular Activities, Socializing, PTA Meetings
Let's face it. You always want to look your best, whether you're grocery shopping for the week, attending your child's soccer game, or socializing with your friends. Fortunately, you don't have to be in an uncomfortable dress or suit to make an impression. Going overboard will often give the wrong impression. Remember, simplicity is the answer. A basic top paired with your favorite skinny jeans, gladiator sandals, a jacket, and a matching belt will do the trick. Experiment with different accessories, such as stacked bracelets, a long necklace, and stud earrings. Oh, and if it's too hot for the jacket, lose it! You'll still look fabulous!

Alternatively, you could try some basic tan bottoms, a black tank, a jean jacket, and a belt that matches your simple flats. Finish it off with an intricate-patterned bag and a casual hairstyle. Even if you're wearing your hair in a messy little bun, you'll still make a fashion statement.

Office Party, Wedding, Other Formal Events
Wow your boss, co-workers, or party guests with your exquisite fashion sense. You don't have to reveal a ton of skin to feel sexy and attractive in your formal attire. Try an elegant red dress with dark stockings, a dark cropped blazer, and fire engine red pumps. Remember, the more elaborate your outfit, the more humble your accessories. A silver clutch should be enough to pull the outfit together.

If you're looking for something a little simpler, break out your little black dress and pair it with shoes that make a statement, such as ankle-length heels, or flats with an elegant bow. Pearls, diamonds, and white gold are perfect options for jewelry.

What is your must-have fashion accessory?
