Indulge Your Olfactory Senses with Old Factory Candles - Review + Giveaway

I love me some candles. Seriously. My obsession could easily be referred to as an addiction. You see, I grocery shop once a week and once a week, I also find myself in the candle section, sniffing almost every candle on the shelf, deciding which one I'll buy this week. Not to mention, my family knows that when it comes to gifts, you can never go wrong getting me a candle or two. Or three. Y'know, whatever works.

With that said, imagine my excitement (or pure giddiness) when I was given the opportunity to try Old Factory Candles.

* Product and/or service provided for review without cost. As always, all opinions are my own.

I had a ton of fun, not only with the candles, but also with the packaging. Yes, the packaging! You see, Old Factory Candles got a little creative with the boxes that these cute little candles came in.

I was greeted with what looked to be a standard, durable cardboard box, but there was information and a phrase scattered all over the box.

"Applying old factory techniques, indulging olfactory senses."

For those of you who prefer products made right here in the United States of America, you have this:

"These natural soy candles are hand poured in the USA."

Bam! Patriotic love!

And a tidbit of information that made me anticipate using these candles...

"These natural soy candles are hand poured in the USA. Each of the 3 gourmet candles inside use our natural soy wax, cotton paper wicks, and pure fragrance oils. We guarantee each candle will burn clean, even, and true-to-scent for 20 hours."

Upon opening their neat little box, I was greeted with these three little gems. Each candle is two ounces, which may seem small, but as mentioned on the outside of the package, the candles are guaranteed to burn clean "for 20 hours."

And just when I thought the cool packaging was confined to just the outside of the box, I pulled out the candles only to find more words to be read including, "Candles make people happy," and "Share the happiness with someone today."

Well, Old Factory, don't mind if I do!

Moving along now, I ordered the Winter Wonderland trio, which includes three scents: Hot Cocoa, Roasted Chestnut, and First Snow.

Can you tell that I'm ready for the cold months? Summer really did me in this year.

After unscrewing the lids of these heavy-duty jars, I was taken aback at how much fragrance the small candles let off. I was pleasantly surprised.

Here is my take on the scents before, during, and after burning:

Hot Cocoa

Prior to Burning: I felt that the Hot Cocoa was true-to-scent prior to burning. It smelled like a steaming cup of Swiss Miss. The scent is very rich and sweet. As a matter of fact, this was the candle that I grabbed to burn first. Could it be because I was craving chocolate?

During Burning: Well, the candle still smelled like Hot Cocoa, but for some reason, my love for it just kind of fizzled out during burning. I don't think I fully appreciate my entire house smelling like Hot Cocoa. It was a little too rich for me. My husband felt the same. With that said, I'm sure that you hot cocoa fanatics could truly appreciate this potent candle.

After Burning: Once I blew the candle out, I actually caught a whiff of a marshmallow-like fragrance which only added to the "true-to-scent" affirmation made on the box of these Old Factory Candles. Well done.

Roasted Chestnut

Prior to Burning: To me, the Roasted Chestnut was a little too "clean" and nut as "nutty" as I had imagined it would be. While there was a slight scent of chestnut, it was not nearly as profound as the scent of actual roasted chestnuts. Too soft and not "sharp" enough.

During Burning: While burning, I found that the "nutty" scent began to increase. Perhaps the base scent isn't "activated" until it heats up? I'm not completely sure. With that said, the scent is warm and inviting, but not absolutely on-par with the true scent of roasted chestnuts.

After Burning: Ah, there's that roasted chestnut smell. I'm not sure why, but the scent of "roasted chestnuts" isn't fully realized until the candle is blown out.

First Snow

Prior to Burning: I wasn't exactly sure what this one would smell like, but the fragrance is soft and reminds me a bit of "clean linen" fragrances, although with a juniper-like scent as well. It's a very comforting scent, and being that scent is linked very closely with memory, reminded me of being snowed-in with my family. It's just comforting.

During Burning: First Snow is by far my favorite candle of the three. It continued to smell soft with a slight floral scent during burning. I truly enjoyed the way that it made my home smell and hope to order more of these in the future.

After Burning: Again, First Snow takes the cake. Even after burning, the scent lingered for quite some time and was soft, pleasant, and slightly floral and new, which I appreciated.

Each candle lasted for quite some time, although I have yet to use up the full 20 hours. I'd say that I burned each candle for about an hour or two. Even after blowing them out, the fragrance continued to fill my home.

Did I mention that these candles have self-trimming wicks? That's right! No trimming required on your part.

It is true that the candles burn clean and evenly. I often have trouble with candles burning at odd angles, which leads to lopsided wax (which then drips onto the wick, rendering the candle virtually useless unless you want to melt them fully and replace the wick yourself). There was no soot, nor was there any odd chemical smells that you sometimes get after blowing a candle out.

The jars are small, but don't let them fool you. They're hefty, and even during burning never became too hot to handle.

The labels have a very "country-like" feel and aren't overly fancy. I like that.

Old Factory offers dozens of different scents for different purposes, including seasonal scents, scents for men, scents for relaxation, and more.

Now that you know the low-down on these little candles, are you ready for a giveaway?

Old Factory Candles is providing a candle set to one lucky winner! To qualify, you must be at least 18 years old and reside in the United States of America.
