Fear of Intimacy - Help Women Enjoy Normal Romantic Lives: #Fight4Love - Raising Awareness About Vaginismus

When it comes to health issues regarding sex and/or the female reproductive system, many people like to turn the other cheek. This approach doesn't help those suffering at all, and often leads to feelings of shame and inadequacy. By tackling these issues and speaking about them openly, we remove that barrier and begin to teach others and become one step closer to better treatments and possibly even cures.

Today, we're talking about vaginismus, a disorder which causes the involuntary tightening of the vaginal muscles. This disorder is sometimes so severe that something as narrow as a cotton swab is excruciatingly painful, when inserted into the vagina. This makes pelvic exams and sex almost impossible.

Raise awareness about vaginismus so that women can get the treatment they need.

Women who suffer from this disease often feel ashamed, unworthy of love, and even as though they are freaks—like something is terribly wrong with them. It can lead to fear of intimacy and even the fear that they may never be able to have children.

Right now, there is a campaign going on called "Fight 4 Love," which is dedicated to curing a woman suffering from vaginismus and to also raise awareness on the issue by starting a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for sufferers. Read that line again. You can help her cure vaginismus that she suffers from so that she can lead a normal life with her husband!

Learn more about how vaginismus is treated.

By donating to this campaign and speaking out about this disorder, you can literally change lives, save marriages, and even help someone start a family!

Vaginismus may be caused by a variety of factors, both physical and mental. Sometimes, the cause is entirely unknown. There are two types of vaginismus: Primary and Secondary.

Primary - The woman has never been able to achieve penetration with a partner. Pelvic exams, insertion of tampons, etc. are nearly impossible.

Secondary - The woman has had pleasurable past sexual experiences, but developed the involuntary tightening of the pelvic floor muscles later on.

For some women, intimacy is terrifying.

If your insurance covers it, then vaginismus can be treated at an affordable rate, often with high success rates. Unfortunately, most insurances do not cover the procedures required to overcome the issues associated with vaginismus, which leads to women giving up—assuming a normal romantic life is impossible.

The sooner a woman receives treatment, the better. Take a moment to help out and raise awareness for those suffering from this invisible disease.
